At Bark Avenue Daycamp we offer private dog training lessons one-on-one with our trainer.

About Private Lessons at Bark Avenue

Private lessons are a great way to customize your dog’s training plan. With minimal distractions, your dog will be able to focus and accelerate their training working one-on-one with our trainer.

Pricing begins at $100 for all private lessons.

Please note: all training may not be resolved in one lesson and may need additional lessons.

Private Lessons

With private lessons you will have one-on-one time with our trainer. If you do not have time for our classes, you can get the same results by completing private lessons. Without the distraction of having other dogs around, such as a class, we make it personal between the trainer, owner and dog. We will set up a time that accommodates your schedule and availability.

House Calls

When your dog is having problems that are indicative to the home we recommend house calls. Here our trainer can see what is going on in the home and address the issue(s) right where they occur.

Specialty Private Lessons

Walk this Way –  Do you walk your dog or does your dog walk you? Walk This Way addresses a wide range of leash problems such as pulling, jumping, leash-biting and refusing to walk on leash. We will focus on skills and techniques to reduce problematic leash behavior and increase self-control for a more successful and pleasant walk.

Crate Skills – Crate training can be easy and not make you feel like your putting your furry family member in “doggy jail”. We’ll teach your dog how to love their crate and feel comfortable in them, making it a positive experience.

Rock Solid Recall – Does your dog always come when called? How about when there are distractions? Training your dog to come when called is one of the most important skills you can teach, especially for their safety. You will learn through fun games and techniques with your dog to build a strong recall and reliable behavior despite distractions using positive reinforcement.

Dogs & Diapers –  Does your family have a new baby or are you expecting? We can help prepare your dog before or after the arrival of your newest addition to your family. Your dog will learn effective techniques that will allow your dog to walk next to a stroller without pulling, lying down during feeds, changing times, baths and more. Your dog should be able to “sit” and “stay” as we will incorporate further techniques in preparing your family and dog to manage interactions safely. Babies are encouraged to come to your lesson.

Canine Confidence – Did your furry family member come into your life after their puppy years? Are they fearful or anxious? We will concentrate on re-exposing your dog to various senses and situations to prevent/overcome fears. Learn how to build a better relationship with your dog and decrease anxiety while they learn to be more confident in themselves and the world around them.

Leash Reactivity –If your dog is leash reactive in the presence of other dogs by lunging, barking, growling, snapping or whining, we can help. Our trainer will work with you and your dog to improve leash skills by walking calmly without reactive behavior, proper handling skills, positive behavior modification, and reading canine behavior.

Canine Good Citizen (CGC) – Strengthen your dog and handler relationship by increasing communication skills and practicing the behaviors required to pass the AKC’s 10-step CGC test.

Advantages of Private Lessons

  • Lessons can be offered at our facility or your dog’s home, which can maximize their probability of success in training with minimal distractions
  • Our trainer can accommodate your schedule, including various times of the day and days of the week. Your lessons do not need to be weekly, unlike our group classes
  • Choose the commands and issues that are important to you to work on
  • Great for dogs with aggression issues, who wouldn’t otherwise be able to participate in a group class
  • Your dog can focus more easily with a one-on-one lesson

Director of Training

Being raised with animals my whole life I always knew I was going to be involved in some way with pets. I worked for many years at dog daycare facilities where I observed and learned the nature of dog behavior. While attending University of Illinois getting a degree in Animal Science-Pre Veterinarian Studies I realized that training is where my real passion lied. After graduating I immersed myself into an intense dog training school in St. Louis, Missouri earning a certificate as a Professional Dog Trainer. There I learned many different training techniques and types of training including: narcotic detection, personal protection, competitive and non-competitive obedience, Schutzhund training and much more!

I currently have 3 dogs that I train for various competitions so my life is anything but boring!

I believe that every dog has its own personality and learning curve not unlike their human companions. My goal is to preserve their uniqueness and build upon their character while positively teaching skills needed for them to be a source of joy and companionship for you and your family.

My training is not approached with a ‘one size fits all’ mentality. Dogs learn in many different ways, therefore I utilize different techniques and skills. Finding the best way your dog learns not only produces results, but makes it an enjoyable and fun experience for both you and your pup.
